Have you ever had an event happen near or to you that just gripped your attention? Have you ever thought, what if that happened to me, what would I do?
That happened to me.
I grew up on a hobby farm outside the city. I was homeschooled. I went to school in Fargo. I am an engineer. I live in a beautiful state. All should go well, right?
It all was until the riots happened in my city and fires burned Lake street, a street I had been on bike rides through many times. A friend of mine, her father’s store was burned down and another looted. A real estate investor’s apartment was vandalized.
All of this happened with the Governor and Mayor just watching the city burn. Within a week the city council voted to defund the police. Just the opposite of what the city needed.
Within a month people were actively supporting Marxist organizations.
Remember, this is the philosophy that killed over 100 million people last century. That is one third the population of the United States.
Not only that but a global pandemic drove mass panic and power grabs by greedy politicians.
All of this happened so rapidly and sudden. What seemed like overnight there was contempt for the systems that bring health, growth, and safety to so many people. It got me thinking about the long term safety of our country.
So what did I need?
I needed a plan. A plan to keep me safe and my loved ones safe.
I developed a comprehensive plan to get me through life. Now, I’m not a doomsday pepper. That isn’t me. But I do want to be prepared for life events that I believe should be planned for and I want to increase my freedom.
This plan is to protect the physical security of me, my loved ones; protect my assets in the long term; ensure growth for the future; and be content to live for the now.
So many Preppers live for the future and all of it’s worries. By doing so, they miss out of life now. The life we have now is the life we are meant to live. Once we realize that, we can get through anything.
None of that diminishes the desire to plan. The hardest thing we have as humans to simultaneously hold in consciousness two opposing philosophies and apply them.

I’m the type of guy who when things get stressful I either step up or I don’t care. I think that’s true for everyone. We only shut down when we don’t feel like there is a chance to win.
The trick here is not to just survive a stressor but to thrive. When we plan and create a thrive mindset, we increase our capability under stress.
This has been a big struggle for me. I am often an anxious person, and when I let that get to me, I shut myself off from the world.
